27th Amendment

The 27th Amendment prohibits any law that increases or decreases the salary of members of Congress from taking effect until the start of the next set of terms of office for Representatives. The great part of our government is the checks and balances system. Although at times it can be corrupt this amendment has an important purpose. Not being able to raise a salary during a term restrains power from the president.

26th Amendment

The 26th Amendment lowered the voting age to 18 years old. The most importance reason behind lowering the age for voting is to give the ability to soldiers to vote and have a say. Also this allows the youth to be more involved with politics and voicing their opinions when it comes to our government.

25th Amendment

The 25th Amendment states that incase the removal or death of the president the Vice President takes over and becomes the president.
This humorous political cartoon shows George Bush invoking the 25th Amendment.

24th Amendment

the 24th Amendment prohibited any poll tax during elections for federal officials.

Having any type boundaries or requirements when it comes to voting can make the ability to vote extremely difficult for some. Having a poll tax restrained some people ability to vote because they simply could not afford it. This cartoon represents the "wall" people would have to essentially destroy to be able to vote.

23rd Amendment

The 23rd Amendment allows residents of District of Columbia the ability to vote in Presidential elections. Before the  23rd Amendment citizens of the District of Columbia had no representation in the Electoral College.

This cartoon represents how before this amendment was ratified it would have been extremely unfair for residents in this region.

22nd Amendment

The 22nd Amendment limited the amount of terms a president can have and for how long. One controversial topic relating to the 22nd amendment is if it should be repealed or not? One could argue that limiting a president to two terms for a length of four years each, denies citizens to re-elect a president they felt performed well. Also this puts pressure on the president because everyone knows when he is leaving. People can become uninterested and wait for the next successor and the president does not have the ability to shape the polictical agenda.

21 Amendment

21st Amendment repeals the 18th amendment which mandated prohibition on alcohol nationwide.
This cartoon has a comedic tone to it. comparing the posters the one on the right seems very insignificant compared to the left. The point is to the depict the idea that the 21st amendment is not a very important amendment and people are just going right back to how were normally. Also the people looking at the poster on the right are paying attention to perhaps the wrong poster. The one on the left seems much more imperative and the one on the right is a poster that does not really have any importance.

20th Amendment

The 20th Amendment sets dates for elections and who takes over if the president dies. Originally before this amendment elections were held in November. This amendment was ratified In January 23, 1933. This amendment was known as the lame duck amendment.

This cartoon makes fun of this nickname and saying that congressmen who lose their election are no longer accountable in "lame duck session".

19th Amendment

The 19th Amendment gave the right for women to vote.

This Political cartoon has a really strong and obvious message. Throughout history we have seen many people suffer for silly reason like skin color. Our government thinks it has fixed its problem by abolishing slavery and letting everyone vote supposedly (15th amendment) and yet women are still suffering to have equality. This cartoon conveys the message women are an important part of life and essentially voting therefore should have the right to vote.

18th Amendment

the 18th amendment has been repealed but banned the use and ability to sell alcohol in the United States.

this pictures makes fun of the reason why prohibition took place. Banning alcohol allowed organized crimes to become prevalent and become rich. Another reason for banning the alcohol had to with the era. It was during world war one and the thought of buying alcohol that was or could be German was seen as treason.

17th Amendment

The 17th Amendment provides for the election of two U.S. senators from each state by popular vote and for a term of six years. IN this video he argues his reasoning on why the 17th amendment should be repealed. Giving more power to the people is the main issue he focuses on by giving voting power to states instead of federal government indirectly gives more power to the people because states governments are mean to be checking the federal power and by having the states retain power is beneficial to citizens because people within state government s would be more politically aware.

16th Amendment

The 16th amendment allows the federal  government collect income tax from all Americans.

This pictures depicts the helplessness of citizens when it comes to the burden of income tax and how some people may feel they are taken advantage of. Many people argue that income tax is unconstitutional and some even think its illegal because it was not properly ratified.

14th Amendment/15th Amendment

the 14th amendment defied national citizenship and forbid states to restrict basic rights of citizens or other persons.
the 15th amendment prohibits government from denying a citizen the right to vote based on race or color.

This comic is depicts the actual law and amendments that are passed and how they have translated into society. The point that is trying to be conveyed with this comic is that even with laws prohibiting inequality and discrimination there are ways around it and it can still happen. Minorities and others who deal with discrimination and their rights will eventually begin to catch on to the ways things actually wired compared to what a law or amendment says.

13th Amendment

the 13th amendment was created to abolish slavery.
I think this picture is interesting because although the was a law passed to end slavery in a way it never ended. This picture depicts the struggle minorities have to endure even with the abolition of slavery in America.
